DNSreports...another sign of the times

Went from being free, and awesome, to requiring a membership of $36 a year.

I paid, because it's a necessary tool of my trade. Sure, it had some bugs, but it was a point of pride to get a clean DNSreports report for me. It became a challenge, to work around their bugs and still get a clean report. My membership expired a couple of weeks ago and I went to see if they offer a special for renewing...and found they've raised the price to $79 a year.

Necessary or not, that's one HELL of a jump. At that price, it puts it out of the range of most "commoners." And yes, I realize I can use dig or nslookup, but a GUI/web-based was helpful when showing people what their DNS looks like.

I've since found How Is My DNS, which works almost as well (though not as detailed), and doesn't seem to be subject to the same bugs, and is FREE.

Still...it feels like the end of an era.

Perhaps I take DNS too seriously.
